Classroom Music
The Classroom Music Programme at St Columba’s is informed by the Australian Curriculum Arts syllabus.
There is an emphasis on a holistic approach where students develop their aural and performance skills. Children will have the opportunity to explore music-making using a variety of classroom instruments and through their natural instrument, the singing voice.
Music at St Columba's is taught by a specialist teacher to all students in Prep - Year 6.
Choir
Children have the opportunity to be involved in the school’s Choral Programme. Students in Year 4 are welcome to join the Junior Choir, while children from Years 5 and 6 form the Senior Choir. St Columba's values the children's participation in the choral programme, so weekly 30 minute rehearsals are scheduled within school hours.
Both ensembles are non-auditioned and there is a strong emphasis on developing musical skills, working as a team, fostering new friendships and the sense of achievement that comes with performance. Performances planned for the choirs include many school events and often include our Anzac Day Ceremony, school assemblies and functions, liturgies, Queensland (Catholic) Colleges' Music Festival, end-of-year Christmas Concert and Senior Graduation.
