Music/Choir

Choir

Children have the opportunity to be involved in the school's Choral Programme. Students from Years 3 to 6 are welcome to join the Choir. St Columba's values the children's participation in the choral programme, so weekly 30 minute rehearsals are scheduled within school hours.

The ensemble is non-auditioned and there is a strong emphasis on developing musical skills, working as a team, fostering new friendships and the sense of achievement that comes with performance. Performances planned for the choir include many school events and often include our Anzac Day Ceremony, school assemblies and functions, liturgies, Queensland (Catholic) Colleges' Music Festival, end-of-year Christmas Concert and Senior Graduation.

Piano and Theory

At St Columba’s School piano and theory tuition is offered as private one-on-one lessons. The Piano Program focuses on teaching students music literacy, so students are prepared for High School music should they wish to continue studying music and piano.

There are 3 professional piano teachers at St Columba’s who teach on acoustic pianos. Lessons are timetabled in 30-minute blocks and are created for each individual student around the specialist timetables, and in conjunction with classroom teachers, to ensure students aren’t missing any important class work.

Some students may sit piano exams through the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) once a solid foundation has been acquired.  There is currently a waiting list, please email the school office for any enquiries at pwilston@bne.catholic.edu.au

Concert Band

The school offers multi-instrumental tuition to students in Years 2-6 on Woodwind, Brass, bass guitar and Percussion. Tuition takes place in group lessons with children encouraged to participate in the ensemble based program. The students have many opportunities throughout the year to perform in concerts, assemblies and competitions. Tuition costs are met by the parents. The recruitment night for children wishing to take part in the Concert Band Program will take place early in Term 4.

Dale Hubbard  currently runs  the Band Program. All enquires should be directed to dchubbard@hotmail.com

Instrumental Music

At St Columba’s we have a large and exciting Strings tuition program with private lessons and a string ensemble occurring weekly for 30mins each.

The Strings program is based around making music a fun and vivid process of learning. We want to foster a love of music whilst educating the child with the proper technique and skills on their instrument.

Preparation for Examinations can also be offered once the student accomplishes the correct level of proficiency on their instrument.

Lessons are currently offered from Prep and above in violin and viola.

This program is run by David Tan. If you would like more information or would like to register for strings lessons, please email: pwilston@bne.catholic.edu.au
